Clock
repair and restoration, manufacture of missing parts, house-calls
for grandfather clocks, free estimates at his studio. Competitive
prices. Along with the Swiss lathes, drills, bits, pinions, gears
and a multitude of clock components, Francesc Peich’s studio
is well equipped with the tools that have been passed down through
the family trade.
Heir to a family tradition
The Peichs have been clockmakers for three generations, first
in the neighbourhood of Sarria in Barcelona, Spain and, for the
past 20 years, in Montreal, Canada. Rellotjeria Peich was the
official clockmaker to the Catalan railway company and between
1916 and the 1980s repaired more than 100,000 clocks and watches,
many belonging to collectors.
A clockmaker’s education
Along with the family apprenticeship, he received a diploma from
Barcelona’s school of clockmaking and took part in work-study
programmes in Switzerland. He was employed at the prestigious
Swiss houses of Favre-Leuva and Jaeger-LeCoultre.
